Nestled in the heart of San Leandro, Pelton Cafe is a charming breakfast restaurant that effortlessly blends the rustic charm of a countryside diner with the vibrancy of a bustling East Bay neighborhood eatery. This cozy spot, located at 194 Pelton Center Way, welcomes guests with a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for starting the day off right. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Pelton Cafe stands out for its generous portions, friendly service, and an impressive menu that showcases a diverse take on breakfast classics.
The cuisine here is unapologetically comforting, offering dishes that satisfy both traditional cravings and adventurous palates. Popular choices like the French Toast Combo offer a perfectly golden, fluffy texture dusted with powdered sugar, while the Chicken Fried Steak with Gravy serves up a hearty, crispy battered steak smothered in rich, though slightly mild, gravy. For those who prefer a taste of Mexico with their morning meal, the Chilaquiles and Steak Ranchero are vibrant, flavor-packed highlights, balancing smoky, spicy, and savory notes with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked eggs.
One can't overlook the creative variety Pelton Cafe offers. From the indulgent Waffles topped with strawberries and whipped cream to the customizable Create Your Own Skillet—where you pick your favorite meats, veggies, and cheese over fluffy scrambled eggs and hearty country potatoes—every dish feels thoughtfully prepared. The menu even offers unique finds like the Mexican Breakfast Family Meal and the satisfying Linguica Sandwich, giving diners an authentic taste of local flavors with a homemade touch.
Complimenting these meals is a well-curated selection of beverages, including refreshing mimosas (and the indulgent 32 oz. Super Mimosa), as well as a variety of beers such as Corona Familiar, Negra Modelo, and Blue Moon that provide the perfect pairing for a leisurely brunch. Wine lovers will appreciate the affordable options, though remember to bring your ID as they cater strictly to those 21 and older.
Guests frequently praise Pelton Cafe for its attentive and friendly service, a hallmark of the dining experience here. One diner, V Tancredi, captures the essence perfectly: “Good portions and good prices, very attentive service. We enjoyed our breakfast meals. Good basic dishes done well.” The atmosphere feels genuine and unpretentious, a place where locals feel at home and visitors immediately welcome.
While some note that the parking can be a bit challenging given the suburban shopping center location, and prices lean toward the higher side typical of California eateries, the overall experience more than compensates. The quality of the food and the warm hospitality combine to create a breakfast outing that leaves you feeling satisfied and eager to return.
In essence, Pelton Cafe delivers a robust, heartfelt breakfast experience that feels like a loving nod to classic American and Mexican morning fare. It’s a place where each bite tells a story of community, comfort, and culinary passion—a true local gem in San Leandro’s vibrant dining scene.
A smaller rustic old-fashioned breakfast place that would would be just at home way out in Gold mining country as here in the near East Bay. We had a short wait, parking was not too hard to find, although it is in a busy suburban shopping area. Good portions and good prices, very attentive service. We enjoyed our breakfast meals. Good basic dishes done well. Definitely a local favorite so it will be busy.
10/10 the food. I don’t remember the exactly name of this dishes, was something like omelette deluxe, OMG I loved it. And the people is very kind and friendly
Chicken fried steak was good the gravy was a little bland. Huge country potatoes, this place had a nice vibe. Really expensive though and on top paid parking. But it is CA.
Came after we did a run in the local area. Food was delicious. The gravy with the sausage is so good and filling. The staff kept checking on us to make sure we were good and our drinks were filled. Would come again and recommend!
What a great find this place was, you can tell the locals come here so the food is good. The only reason I gave a 4 out of 5 was because they don't use headlamps so the food was just warm but delicious. Service was quick and very friendly. I would recommend this place if you are in the area for a quick bite.
DELISH - This was our 2nd time there and this now our favorite spot! Super cool decorations and Bay Area history! The food and the servers are amazing and great prices! Large portions!
